History of Art .
About Futurism - is it a 'Future' Generation?
This -ism developed in Italy during difficult social and political times. This movement emerged before WW 1 (World War One ), so the artist's wanted change, wanted something to help, helping people forget - Development of total abstraction . Futurists loved mostly 5 (Five) titles : Speed, Noise, Machines, Pollution & Cities.
Futurists had a formula, this formula was : Art + Action + Life = Futurism.
Talking about these Futurists, important artist's - Giacomo Balla (Painter), Umberto Boccioni (Sculptor).

Street light by Giacomo Balla - 1909.
This painting is an oil on canvas.
Balla shows mostly geometrical repetition (curves) to give a movement or a better description of a futurist era, Speed. Colours are mostly to be bright contrasting with the blue edges, and giving that powerful yellow (Street light & the moon). Repetition gives a sense of movement and not a static look but a dynamic look.
This kind of movement is also as close as the era Fauvism. But why ? Colours are most alike.

Unique forms of continuity in space by Umberto Boccioni .
Sculpted bronze .
Smooth material, so one will immediately notice that there is a sense of speed, speed that even the naked eye cannot see... This is part of futurism. This unique form is a unique piece of art but, heading back to the history line in the greek period another '... form of continuity' is in the same position and speed but a more disciplined posture.

Nike of Samothrace.
Contrasting these two 'Unique forms of continuity' is a symbol of speed. The same alike posture, but the Nike is more in detail than the Bronze Sculpted figure, so this means that abstract took form.
